Becky started dancing at three years of age with Mrs Jackie Shewell-Thomas at Gloucester Dance Studio. Over the next twenty years, she successfully passed all examinations in the British Ballet Organisation (BBO) ballet and tap syllabus, including Advanced Two. During this time, she also danced in many school shows, as well as productions with amateur theatre companies in Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Bourton on the Water. She also gained experience in choreographing dance numbers for these shows and productions.
During her time at Gloucester Dance Studio, Becky started teaching ballet and tap dance at all ages and levels and in 2004 she attained her Diploma in Dance Teaching with Distinction from the British Ballet Organisation. Becky has Registered Teacher Status with the BBO and has also started training as an examiner for the organisation.
Becky joined Danceworks in 2008 and currently teaches classes covering the vocational tap and modern syllabus, as well as contributing to classes in ballet for various ages, including adults.
Outside dancing, Becky is a Course Leader and Senior Lecturer in Development Geography at Bath Spa University. She has a Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree in this subject, and has spent time undertaking research in Northeast Thailand. She has published articles in international journals and given presentations at various international conferences. Becky is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and after completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Learning in Higher Education, has now been elected a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
